The BIG Sing Community Choir have smashed the first challenge of 2016 – and raised £3,100 for ‘Cherished’ a charity that gives hope to vulnerable women suffering from abuse, domestic violence, addiction and prostitution.
Gemma Francis, leader of The BIG Sing was given the challenge on a recent training course. She said ‘I am currently a candidate on The Lions – a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style project that backs entrepreneurs with training and funding. We were given a £20 seed challenge just like you see on ‘The Apprentice’. They gave us £20 and we had to creatively turn that into lots of cash for the charity’. Gemma returns to The Lions project on Saturday 23rd January to give a presentation on her results.
The BIG Sing Choir united together to prove that there is power in community. ‘Together we can achieve greatness’ said Gemma ‘We have already had bucket donations at all of our Christmas shows raising £1250. With the fun day we wanted to get to £2000 and planned an amazing day of games, craft stalls, cakes stalls, food, kids crafts, face painting as well as music from The BIG & LITTLE Sing Choirs. The choir members have really come on board with this challenge and it’s amazing to see all their creative gifts come together for such a great cause.’
We had something for all the family: Guess where the treasure is on our big map, lucky dips, giant tombola, home-made cake stall, soup kitchen, human fruit machine, bagatielle, chocolate fountain, children’s sand art, face painting, glitter tattoos, as well as lots of craft stalls and live singing from The BIG Sing Choir!
With a target of £2,000 in our sights - we smashed it by raising a total of £3,100!
"WOW what a fantastic day! The BIG Hearted Fun Day went so well! Massive thank you to all the BIG Singers who worked so hard on their stalls. We had such creative games, yummy cakes, fantastic things for sale all donated from the choir members and of course amazing singing from The BIG & LITTLE Sing choirs! Thank you so much to everyone for making it a massive success. Thank you my BIG Sing family. I'm feeling overwhelmed from the love and support today and I know you have worked your socks off to raise money for the charity! Proud of you all. There's power in community and we proved that this afternoon!" Gemma was overwhelmed by the efforts of her BIG Sing family!
