SAFEGUARDING AND CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT – BIG SING SOUL
BIG SING SOUL is part of IMAGINE THE DAY CHARITABLE TRUST(ITD) and this statement details the SAFEGUARDING responsibility tutors have when they become aware of a safeguarding concern and the process, they have been asked to follow by ITD.
All organisations working with children and adults at risk have a legal obligation to ensure their safety and wellbeing, including having in place mechanisms for dealing with safeguarding concerns.
Any child or vulnerable adult who attends a Big Sing Soul group is the sole responsibility of the parent/carer who must support and supervise them throughout a session. This means tutors will not take on any responsibility for their personal care during a session.
Where a tutor becomes aware of a safeguarding concern, they will discuss this concern with the parent/carer unless to do so would increase the risk of harm. The tutor will be non-judgemental and may be able to signpost to support but please understand their role is that of a tutor. A safeguarding concern could be from a direct disclosure from a child or vulnerable adult or from something a tutor or someone else observes in the session. A concern could also be raised about a safeguarding situation involving a child or adult at risk who is external to anyone in the Big Sing Soul session. It is not the role of a tutor to investigate but they are required to report a safeguarding concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) of ITD. The DSL will make a decision about what further action may be necessary which may include making a referral to an external safeguarding body and will communicate with the parent/carer where this does not increase risk to anyone.
IMMEDIATE RISK
Where a tutor assesses someone is at immediate risk then they should take steps to minimise this which could include calling the police or another statutory service.
CONFIDENTIALITY and GDPR
Where a tutor reports a safeguarding concern, they will include the name and contact details of the person who is the nature of the safeguarding concern and the person who has shared the concern. ITD will record and store this information in line with GDPR. The tutor will maintain confidentiality, only sharing a concern with other staff where considered necessary for safety.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we want to ensure that all children and adults are free from harm or the risk of harm.
